Statement from South Tyneside Green Party on Ukraine
South Tyneside Green Party
2nd March 2022
The Green Party of England and Wales deplores the invasion of Ukraine and condemns the unprovoked aggression against a sovereign nation in the strongest terms. The party calls for immediate and stringent sanctions on Russia.
It is with unspeakable sadness that we have witnessed yet another unprovoked and unjustified invasion of a country that will have a devastating impact on the lives of millions of innocent people.
At this dark time, our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, whose lives have been turned upside down by this dreadful act of aggression.
South Tyneside Green Party makes clear that we support the following calls from Green Party of England and Wales:
- There is a clear need to facilitate people’s transit to asylum in the UK, especially for family reunion
- There has been a complete failure to tackle Russian interference in the UK’s political process, as evidenced in the Russia Report – especially as it constitutes a risk to national security that has been ignored for too long
- It is important to recognise that the abhorrent actions taken in Ukraine have been taken by the Putin regime alone, and the Russian people should not be held responsible in any way for what their oppressive and dangerous government have done
South Tyneside Green Party members also extend their support to those in our region who are directly affected by the current conflict, from those who have chosen to make the North East their home to those with family and friends in Ukraine. Our thoughts are with all of you.
Deeds not words.
We know and are proud of the kind and generous spirit of the people of South Tyneside. We understand that the current cost of living crisis makes it difficult for so many to support calls for donations but, if you are in a position to help out, please consider doing so.
